Accessibility Statement

Banks Road Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to the Banks Road Primary School website: www.banksroadprimaryschoolliverpool.co.uk.

This website is run by Banks Road Primary School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, this means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings

  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen

  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability: https://mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk/.

How accessible this website is

Our Accessibility Audit (October 2023) identified several areas where the website is not fully accessible. We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.

  • Not all images or uploaded documents contain suitable alternative text.

  • Some navigation elements may not work fully with assistive technology.

  • The Accessibility Statement was previously not published online (now resolved).

  • Live video streams (if used) may not include captions.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

(a) Non‑compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content below is not accessible for the following reasons:

  • Some images do not have appropriate alternative text, meaning people using screen readers cannot access the information (fails WCAG 1.1.1). We plan to add alternative text for all images by December 2026

  • Some legacy PDFs are not tagged for accessibility and may not be readable by assistive technologies (fails WCAG 1.3.1 and 4.1.2).

  • Some navigation components may not offer clear keyboard focus states (fails WCAG 2.1.1).

  • If used, live video does not have captions (WCAG 1.2.4).

(b) Disproportionate burden

After assessment, fixing all historic PDFs and legacy content would place a disproportionate burden on the school at this time. However, all new documents will meet accessibility standards.

(c) Content not within the scope of the regulations

  • PDFs published before 23 September 2018 are exempt unless essential to providing a service. Older documents will not be remediated but can be provided in accessible formats on request.

  • Live video streams (if used) are exempt from accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Banks Road Primary School has a comprehensive Accessibility Plan (2023–2026) following a detailed audit performed in October 2023. It outlines actions including:

  • Improving accessible parking and signage

  • Lowering intercoms for wheelchair users

  • Adding hearing loop provision in Reception

  • Improving accessible toilet features

  • Ensuring steps have suitable contrasting nosings

  • Enhancing website accessibility and ensuring compliance in future published materials

Our plan is reviewed every three years.
