Admission Arrangements

Our School is a Community School, maintained by Liverpool City Council.

Banks Road Primary School is a Community School maintained by Liverpool City Council. Admissions to Reception are managed through the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme.

Reception Admissions

Applications for Reception places must be made via the Liverpool City Council website:
👉 liverpool.gov.uk/admissions

If the school is oversubscribed, places will be allocated according to the following priority order:

  1. Looked After Children
Children in the care of the local authority, or previously in care (including those adopted or under special guardianship orders).

  2. Children with Exceptional Medical or Social Needs
Applications under this criterion must be supported by professional evidence (e.g. from a doctor or social worker) showing why Banks Road is the only suitable school.

  3. Siblings
Children who will have a sibling attending the school at the time of admission.
Definition: Includes brothers, sisters, half-siblings, step-siblings, and foster siblings living at the same address as part of the same family unit.

  4. All Other Applicants
If places remain, they are allocated based on distance from the child’s permanent home address to the school.

Distance is measured in a straight line using Liverpool City Council’s computerised system, based on national grid coordinates.
In cases where two children live the same distance away and only one place is available, random allocation will be used.

Nursery Admissions

Banks Road Primary School offers part-time and full-time nursery places. Nursery admissions are managed directly by the school.
Please contact the school office for more information and to request an application form.

In-Year Transfers

For admissions outside the normal Reception intake, please contact the school directly. We will liaise with Liverpool City Council to process your application.

Appeals

If your child is not offered a place, you have the right to appeal to an independent panel.

For community schools like Banks Road, appeals are managed by Liverpool City Council.

Children with SEND and Fair Access Admissions

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are admitted to the school if it is named in the plan, in line with statutory guidance.
Admissions for children with SEND who do not have an EHCP are considered under the standard admissions criteria.

Banks Road Primary School also participates in Liverpool City Council’s Fair Access Protocol, which ensures that vulnerable children who need a school place outside the normal admissions round are placed quickly and equitably.
