Year 6F 2025 - 2026
Miss Farrington
Welcome to our class page- 6F
What we are Learning this half term:
English – In English this half term, we will be studying The Ways of the Wolf. Children will be writing a documentary-style narrative and a balanced argument, developing their ability to use precise vocabulary, organise ideas clearly and present viewpoints thoughtfully while explaining complex ideas.
Maths – In Maths, we will be focusing on decimals, fractions and percentages, as well as area, volume and statistics. Children will deepen their understanding of how these concepts link together, apply them to problem-solving and use them confidently in a range of real-life contexts.
Science – Our science topic this half term is Evolution and Inheritance. Children will explore how living things have changed over time, how characteristics are passed on through generations and how adaptation helps species survive in different environments.
Geography – In Geography, we will be learning about Jamaica, exploring its diversity, the impact of Hurricane Beryl, and how tourism affects the country. Children will develop their understanding of physical and human geography and consider how natural events influence people and places.
History – In History, our topic is the Era of the Second World War. Children will learn about the Phoney War, life during the war in the countryside, the Windrush generation, and how health, welfare and schools were affected during this time. They will explore how the war brought about significant social change.
Religion – In RE, we will study Stories Which Point to the Truth. Children will explore a range of stories and discuss the morals, messages and lessons they teach, considering how these stories guide beliefs and behaviour.
Shared Reading – In our reading lessons, we will continue to practise SATs-style comprehension questions, this time using the text Holes. Children will focus on retrieving information, making inferences and explaining their answers using evidence from the text.
P.E. – PE will take place on a Tuesday this half term. Our focus will be Basketball and Netball, where children will develop their teamwork, coordination and game skills. Please ensure your child wears their Banks Road PE kit on this day.
PSHE – Our PSHE topic will be Dreams and Goals. Children will reflect on their aspirations, explore steps they can take towards achieving them and discuss how perseverance and resilience support success.
Music – Every Wednesday, children in Year 6 will continue practising their string instruments. They will further develop their ensemble skills and perform pieces together as part of an orchestra.
Homework:
Homework will be set on Maths.co.uk at the end of each topic. The expectation is that all homework is completed within one week of being set.
Times Table Rock Stars should be used little and often to support the development of rapid recall and fluency. We recommend that children practise for around 5 minutes per day. Secure times table knowledge helps children to access more challenging maths, including reasoning and problem-solving, and supports confidence across all areas of the maths curriculum.
Your child has also been provided with a reading book, tailored to their level of reading. It is expected that all children should read several times a week which is to be recorded in their reading records.
