School Council and Junior Leadership Team
What is a School Council?
A School Council is a formal group of pupils elected by their peers to represent their views and contribute to decision-making within the school. It provides a structured opportunity for pupils to influence school life and take part in democratic processes.
Why do we have a School Council?
At Banks Road Primary School, we believe that children should have a voice in decisions that affect them. This belief is supported by Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which states that children have the right to express their views freely in all matters affecting them.
Our School Council:
- Gives pupils a meaningful way to share their ideas and opinions.
- Encourages active participation in school improvement.
- Develops leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Promotes understanding of democracy, citizenship, and accountability.
What does the School Council do?
School Councillors meet regularly to:
- Discuss issues raised by their classmates.
- Work on projects to improve school life.
- Represent the school in meetings and events.
- Lead initiatives such as charity fundraising, environmental campaigns, and pupil wellbeing activities.
