Our Mini Police Get Their Uniforms!

This morning was extra special at Banks Road — Merseyside Police visited our school and held a surprise assembly for the Year 6 children. In the assembly, our brand new Mini Police officers received their very own uniforms!

The hall was buzzing with excitement as the officers introduced our Mini Police programme and explained what it means to be part of this team. Pupils from Years 5 and 6 will be invited to take part, learning about how police help our community and how we can make our neighbourhood safer.

What Is Mini Police?

Mini Police is a fun and hands-on programme run by Merseyside Police together with local schools, and it’s all about:

  • Giving children a chance to experience policing in a positive way

  • Building trust and confidence between pupils and the police

  • Helping pupils develop a sense of responsibility in their communities

  • Teaching important safety lessons — like road, water, fire, internet safety, and more

At Banks Road, our aims are to help children get to know police in a positive light, encourage helpfulness and responsibility, and empower children to make their local community better. The Mini Police team takes part in community actions like litter picking, promoting safe parking, and raising awareness about local issues.

As the Merseyside Police say:

“Our Mini Police will support force priorities through participation in community engagement events … Children who become part of the programme will help to tackle local issues … By assisting the police service, we hope they will also carry that ownership and pride back into the community they live in.”

What the Programme Includes

Over the coming months, our Mini Police officers will:

  1. Attend lessons led by police staff on safety topics (road, fire, water, online, etc.)

  2. Lead or help with school-run community activities related to local safety priorities.

  3. Receive special rewards and experiences — like visits to a police station, meeting specialist units, or visiting fire stations.

Already, our pupils have taken part in campaigns, met police teams, and played a role in improving local safety.

Looking Forward

Over the coming weeks, we’ll follow the adventures of our Mini Police officers: from lesson activities to community work and special visits. Keep an eye on the website for updates, and look out for photos of our Mini Police in action!

A big thank you to Merseyside Police for organising this wonderful event, and to all our pupils for their enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see the positive difference our Mini Police will make in Banks Road and beyond.
